Thank you to Michael Berman for choosing, providing considerable background information, and leading our discussion on Valentine's Day of, The Maltese Falcon, a classic film noir which many of us can watch over and over again.

Out film for March 14 is Falling Down, a 1993 film directed by Joel Schumacher.

Falling Down is a story about a middle-aged man, Michael Douglas, who is dealing with unemployment and divorce. He sets out one day to attend his daughter's birthday party. Enroute his car breaks down on a LA highway. He abandons the car and starts walking to the party. His frustration and bitterness increase and he has a number of violent encounters, including one with a veteran cop (Robert Duvall). The film raises issues of social justice, consumerism, and the decline of American culture.

Remember to watch the film on your own before we meet for our discussion.
The film is available at local libraries and can be rented on You Tube, Google Play, Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Fandango, and a new service called Row 8.

<![CDATA[February 14 - The Maltese Falcon.]]>Sun, 19 Jan 2025 04:14:20 GMThttp://samgroupil.org/film-discussion-group/february-14-the-maltese-falconWhen: February 14 at 1:30pm. The Maltese Falcon.
Where: Hybrid with in person at North Shore Senior Center, 161 Northfield Road, Northfield

Thank you to Bob Ward for giving the group extensive information about The Rules of the Game and leading an engaging discussion on January 10. As one member expressed, "I always appreciate the films more after our discussions."

On February 14 we will discuss The Maltese Falcon, a 1941 film credited by some as the first film noir. Humphrey Bogart stars as the hard-boiled private detective Sam Spade. This was the first film directed by John Huston and the first film role for Sydney Greenstreet. Other stars are Peter Lorre and Mary Astor. A masterful story of characters more than plot.

The film is available at local libraries. It can be rented on AppleTV, Amazon Prime, You Tube, Google Play movies, and Fandango At Home.

It may be available for free on TubiTV.com. Remember to watch the film beforehand and then join our discussion.
